Our website ( is available for browsing (with or without an online account/profile), checking rates, and for the purpose of contacting us, making, modifying or canceling any reservation made directly via our website. When contacting us via the website, or using the reservations function, personal information will be required. This can include; email, contact telephone numbers, address, name, and other optional information. Each user with an online account/profile may opt-in of various email notifications, e.g. newsletters and offers. Any information that you choose not to provide us with may prevent us from being able to process your reservation/request.


Guaranteed Reservations and Deposits

All reservations made directly with The Windermere, either via our direct website, or direct with our reservations department, must be guaranteed to one of the following card types; MasterCard, VISA card or American Express card. Payments are subject to the terms and conditions of the rate type / cancellation policy chosen and confirmed at the time of booking.


Credit Card Safety

We are committed to keeping your personal information safe. By making your accommodation reservation on our online booking engine, you are protected by Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. Through encryption, the personal information you provide is converted into code that is securely dispatched over the Internet.


Information Collected From You

Personal information or data is required from individuals who; request information from us, register for a room, make a restaurant reservation. You may give us information about you by, even partially, filling in forms, setting up a user account or profile, subscribing to newsletters or other services, making or cancelling a booking, making applications in case of job postings, making an enquiry or communicating with us e.g. via email or telephone. This information may include your name, email address, billing address, room preferences or special requests, telephone numbers, guarantee/deposit information to secure your reservation, the content of any email you send us, or any other similar information. You are under no obligation to provide us with this information, but without it, we may not be able to provide certain services or information. We also record your itemised spending and other expenses billed to your room. Information particular to your stay may also be stored (e.g. special requests). The information specific to your stay is stored in the property management system. We may retain the content of any document (inc. letters, comment cards, electronic documents such as emails, or any other forms of communication) that you send to us before, during or after your stay.


How long is my personal information retained?

If you request to obtain the information we hold about you, you may be required to present a valid photo ID, and to complete a request form. We reserve the right to decline access to your personal information if required by law.


Right to Rectification

You may request that we rectify any inaccurate, and/or incomplete personal data.


Right to Withdraw Consent

You may, as permitted by applicable law, withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time. Please note that if you withdraw your consent, you may not be able to make use of certain features for which the processing of your personal data is essential.


Right to Erasure

You may request that we erase your personal data. We will comply unless there is a lawful reason for not doing so, e.g. if retention is necessary for us to comply with our legal obligations.


Third Party Sites & External Links

The Windermere personal information you provide, will only be used by The Windermere (and our associated properties). Your personal information will not be disclosed to any third party, unless required by law. 

The Windermere is not responsible for the privacy practices or the contact of external sites that may be provided/linked to, on our website, via our emails or social media.

All links provided are done so in good faith, in order to offer an additional facility to visitors to our site (inc. social media). The Windermere is not responsible for any content held within external sites or any links contained in them.


Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received within the cancellation policy indicated on the reservation. Payments for advance purchase rates are not refundable in the case of modification, cancellation or no-show. 

Guests are always advised to take out travel insurance against cancellation.



The following payment methods are accepted;

Cash in GBP, MasterCard (debit or credit), VISA (debit or credit), Maestro, American Express or Bank Transfer. In the case of bank transfers, cleared funds must be received prior to the date of arrival. You are responsible for any bank fees or charges. Any unpaid charges will be due on arrival.


Early Arrival & Late Departure

Check-in time is 2pm. If your arrival is early in the day, and you prefer immediate access to your room, we recommend reserving for the prior night to guarantee immediate access to the room. Similarly, we recommend reserving the additional night for late departures, if you wish to guarantee the room beyond the usual check-out time of 11am.


Infants & Children

Infants and children under 5 years of age are not permitted. We must be advised at the time of booking, of the ages of any children between 5 and 17 years of age, so that we can accommodate you in the best way possible.


Room Occupancy

Occupancy of our guest rooms is fixed at the time of booking. We reserve the right to transfer you to alternative accommodation within our properties, add a supplement to your bill, turn you away, or make any other decisions we deem necessary in the given circumstances.


Room Availability

We cannot guarantee specific rooms, though we always endeavour to fulfill all guest requests where possible.


Smoking Policy

The Windermere is a smoke-free zone; smoking is not permitted on the premises. Guests who do not comply will be fined a penalty of GBP 250.00. This is in compliance with UK law (2007).


Room Keys

Any keys not returned on check-out will incur a penalty charge of GBP 200.00.


Damage to Hotel Property

We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of rectifying damage, caused by the deliberate, negligent or reckless act of the guest to the hotel’s property or structure. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest’s credit/debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address. We will however make every effort to rectify any damage internally prior to contracting specialists to make the repairs, and therefore will make every effort to keep any costs that the guest would incur to a minimum.


Removal of Hotel Property

We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of replacing any items that are removed from the premises without consent. The charge will be the full replacement cost of the missing item, including any carriage charges.



CCTV is in operation in the public areas of The Windermere at all times. This activity is carried out for the security of our guests and staff.


Accuracy of Details

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure accuracy, please remember that facilities and services may alter. The Windermere cannot be held responsible for any changes that arise or errors that might have occurred. All details are accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication. We cannot, however, be held responsible for any changes which occur from time to time.
